About

The Soziale Initiative Hamburg SI-HAM e.V began its activities on August 15, 2021, following the collapse of the Afghan government and the emergence of the Taliban. The organization’s goal was to assist people at risk in Afghanistan, and it has since facilitated the transfer of 500 families to Germany.

Since the start of its operations until July 2022, the organization registered, evaluated, and finalized the cases of 850 people at risk, and worked in partnership with the German Foreign Ministry. 480 cases were approved, and the individuals were evacuated to Germany. Throughout the process, the Soziale Initiative Hamburg SI-HAM e.V has followed up regularly with the German Foreign Ministry and facilitated the transfer of people at risk from Afghanistan to Iran, Pakistan, and finally to Germany.

It is worth noting that all of these services, including the handling of the cases of evacuated families from Afghanistan, were provided free of charges and without any financial gain to the organization.

The Soziale Initiative Hamburg SI-HAM e.V is led by Ms. Maryam Sagari, and works in collaboration with Mr. Ali Rezaei and Ms. Amini. It was the first organization to develop a plan for the transfer of people at risk in Afghanistan in partnership with the German Foreign Ministry, political parties, and social and cultural organizations in Germany. They called for urgent and practical action, and worked to pressure the German federal government through street protests and open letters to politicians, parties, and the Foreign Ministry to expedite the evacuation process, which was initially slow.

Our work continued to raise awareness among German citizens about the alarming situation of people at risk in Afghanistan through German media, human rights organizations, and migrant defenders in that country. On the other hand, the Soziale Initiative Hamburg SI-HAM e.V has provided financial assistance to several domestic refugees, school students, and women empowerment programs over the past year. It has provided the platform for almost one hundred students to learn German through online courses, which are currently ongoing.

Part of the organization’s work focused on cultural and women-related education and teaching girls. Several exhibitions of photos and paintings and public awareness programs were held to reflect the deplorable situation of women and girls in Afghanistan, so that the German people would be aware of the increasing violence against women and their complete removal from society in Afghanistan.

Another part of the SI-HAM e.V’s activity was legal and social counseling for Afghan migrants in and outside of Germany to acquaint them with the culture, laws, living conditions, and language learning methods of the host country so that they can integrate successfully into the new community and country.

It should be noted that the Soziale Initiative Hamburg SI-HAM e.V continues its activities in the above-mentioned fields, especially in the evacuation of people at risk from Afghanistan, with all its power and resources. We are committed to supporting the people of Afghanistan, especially women, migrants, and those at risk in the country, and we will spare no effort to do so.
