SI-HAM | Two years have passed

Two years have passed since the Taliban took control of Afghanistan. Their rule has brought severe restrictions, especially for women and girls. Despite two years of protests and efforts to evacuate threatened individuals, challenges remain.

Germany initiated family reunification and humanitarian visa programs, evacuating some individuals. However, the process faced hurdles and policy changes.

The Hamburg Social Innovators Society helped register individuals in need and sent 825 cases to the German Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Fortunately, 480 families received positive responses, while others await relocation or received no response.

The situation remains uncertain, with shifting international policies regarding Afghanistan. The society continues its efforts to help those in need, not only through Germany but also through other countries.

On the second anniversary of the society, they provide free counseling to newcomers and those in Germany facing challenges related to migration.
Contact information is available, but I want to clarify that I personally handle threatened individuals’ cases, separate from any organization in Germany. It’s a slow process due to personal oversight, and I’m grateful to volunteers who’ve worked with us for two years. We’d welcome more help from those who arrived in Germany.

We didn’t celebrate the second anniversary of our Assoviationbut protested instead, discussing the impacts of the repressive group ruling Afghanistan. Intellectuals’ departure is a tragedy, and they hope for a better Afghanistan. I’ll explore the option of relocating individuals in the next article.

Sincerely,
Maryam Saghari
Director of Soziale Initiative Hamburg SI-HAM e.V
